Cross-Enrollment - Distributed Learning
The Ministry of Education and School District #5 (Southeast Kootenay) both recognize the importance of choice and flexibility for our students. We have entered into an Agreement with the Ministry and students in Grades 10-12 have the ability to enrol in both a bricks and mortar school and at KES. These students are enrolled in both schools, attend their regular classes and work on the KES courses according to an agreed upon schedule. As of 2008, some bricks and mortar schools are providing time in the school schedule to allow many cross-enrolled distributed learning students to work on their KES courses. (See Support Blocks)
Cross-enrolled students achieve a higher level of success, if they are diligent in completing their assigned work, follow an established schedule which includes regular teacher contact. Upon enrolling with KES, the teacher will work with the student to determine the best program delivery method and coordinate a contact/support schedule. Each schedule is tailored to meet the individual needs of the student. This includes taking into consideration the coarse workload, student’s time commitments and support requirements. These elements will form the basis of the student’s learning plan, which will be reviewed on a regular basis.
