Welcome to KES (Kootenay Educational Services)

We offer alternative, individualized educational programs to students in Kindergarten to Adult. There are currently four educational centers in the East Kootenay and five different programs available.

Kootenay Educational Services (KES) functions to provide educational opportunities that may not be possible to students attending a traditional,"bricks and mortar" school.  These opportunities may include:


Student Eligibility - Who can take courses at KES?

To qualify for a free education through KES services and the Ministry of Education for British Columbia, you must:

1. Be a resident of British Columbia and/or satisfy the criteria for "ordinarily resident” status.

2. Check the availability of programs. Not all programs offered by KES are subject to open enrollment. The following chart describes the programs and criteria for registration:

3. Agree to take active participation in Foundation Skills Assessment and Satisfaction Surveys

Foundation Skills Assessment is for students in grades 4 and 7

Satisfaction Surveys are for parents and students in Grades 4, 7, 10, and 12
